Inga Springe

I am a Latvian investigative journalist based in Estonia and a co-founder of the Baltic Center for Investigative Journalism Re:Baltica, with more than 20 years of professional experience.

Over the past decade, my work has focused primarily on disinformation, propaganda, information manipulation, and Russian influence operations, both in Latvia and internationally. I am a member of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and OCCRP, and have contributed to cross-border investigations addressing issues of power, corruption, democratic resilience, and foreign interference.

My recent investigative work has focused on Kremlin-linked influence and sabotage operations in Europe, including collaborations with the independent Russian outlet The Insider and regional partners.

Among the latest investigations:

  • Russian Saboteurs Sent Exploding DHL Packages in Europe via Riga — a joint investigation by The Insider, Re:Baltica, and Delfi, based on Latvian and Estonian court documents, showing how Russia’s military intelligence (GRU) recruits Baltic citizens to carry out sabotage, arson, and vandalism in Western countries.

  • Dangerous Liaisons: New Details of Latvian MEP Tatjana Ždanoka’s Espionage for Russia — an investigation uncovering long-term covert cooperation with Russian intelligence services.

What I work on

  • Disinformation, propaganda, and information manipulation
  • Russian influence operations and hybrid threats
  • Media literacy and critical thinking
  • Social media algorithms and emotional influence
  • Information verification and decision-making under uncertainty

Lectures & workshops

Alongside my journalistic work, I deliver critical thinking lectures and workshops for organizations, municipalities, and international audiences.

These sessions focus on practical skills: identifying manipulation and disinformation, understanding how social media and new technologies shape perception, and learning how to respond to false or misleading information in professional contexts.

Lectures are available in English and Latvian, both in-person and online.

Beyond journalism

In parallel to investigative reporting, I actively explore new formats for reaching audiences beyond traditional media.

This includes:

These projects are both personal and professional. They allow me to experiment with how complex, sensitive topics can be communicated clearly, responsibly, and without sensationalism — and how journalistic principles can be applied to new platforms and communities.

I see this work as an ongoing experiment at the intersection of journalism, education, and content creation.
